Word & Character Counter

Count words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs in Hebrew or English text. Includes estimated reading time.

How It Works

Paste or type text in the input box. The tool instantly counts words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs, and calculates estimated reading time.

For Hebrew text, you can choose to exclude nikud (vowel marks) from the character count. Nikud includes all cantillation and vowel marks that appear above and below Hebrew letters.

The tool runs entirely in your browser. No data is sent to any server. Perfect for content writers, editors, students, and anyone who needs to count words.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the tool count Hebrew words correctly?+
Yes. The tool counts words by splitting on whitespace, which works correctly for both Hebrew and English. Mixed-language texts are counted together.
What is nikud and why exclude it?+
Nikud are the vowel marks (dots and dashes) placed above and below Hebrew letters. Most modern Hebrew text is written without nikud. When nikud is present, excluding it gives a more accurate character count of the actual letters.
How is reading time calculated?+
The tool uses approximately 200 words per minute for Hebrew and 250 words per minute for English. The minimum displayed is 1 minute.
Is my text stored or sent anywhere?+
No. Everything runs locally in your browser. No text is transmitted to any server.
Can I count characters in mixed Hebrew and English text?+
Absolutely. The tool counts all characters regardless of language. The nikud toggle only affects Hebrew vowel marks. English characters are always counted normally.
