מֵי שִׁדְרָה
mei-shidra
Formal HebrewMeaningA special clear liquid that is inside your head and around your spine. It protects your brain and spinal cord.
HistoryThis is a modern Hebrew term created to describe a medical idea. The word "שִׁדְרָה" (spine) is very old and appears in the Talmud, a collection of Jewish laws and stories written about 1500 years ago. The word "מַיִם" (water) is even older, from the Bible. The two words were put together in modern times to name the fluid around the spine.
The doctor took a sample of the spinal fluid for a test.
